I am beyond excited to kick off and welcome you to the Metal Heroes Summer Camp. Doing an event like this is something that has been on my mind for a very, very long time. I’m psyched.

Metal Heroes Summer Camp is designed to teach, motivate and inspire young metal-heads ages 12-18. All rock band instruments are welcome focusing on Guitar, Bass, Drums and Vocals. I hope you will join me on this 100% full-on metal journey.

I have always wanted to share my tour and music experiences with younger metal-heads and I’m really looking forward to open up the metal vault with you on so many levels and help you sharpen your skills to metal ninja perfection. While helping you with individual tasks, we’ll also learn how to make amazing progress when rehearsing with a band to talking about any musical challenges that you might face. I can guarantee this will be incredibly fun and you will learn a lot, too.

You also will get some great inside info on how the music business works, how to work well with others, all the while you fully immerse yourself in the music of the metal gods. We’ll be jamming together, hanging out together and everyone will get a chance to ask their questions and get plenty of one-on-one playing tips. And, of course, get ready to hear countless tour stories which more than likely involve your favorite rockers. We’ll close out the camp with a superb metal concert in front of your family and friends.

Speaking of friends - I invited some, because what’s a camp without some pals … I’ll tell you all about it very soon.

So, if spending nearly a week at a beautiful resort like location while immersing yourself in all things metal sounds good to you – then let’s rock! This is for you. Metal For Life!     -Metal Mike

Campers will also get one on one attention to focus on any aspect of music they would like to additionally discuss. Mike will also talk about recording an album with musicians spread all over the country and the process of how to put it all together for a great, cohesive final product.

In this great workshop Mike will focus on several sticking points that many guitarists have questions about. These include getting a great guitar sound with emphasis on choosing a correct guitar pick and how it effects your attack, tone and overall sound of the guitar. Campers will have a chance to try out and keep several picks courtesy of Dunlop Picks. Mike will additionally talk about what you can do to become a better student and will give campers plenty of tips that will help in learning material quicker and with less effort. Campers will have plenty of chances to ask questions.

This is a hands-on workshop that will focus on getting a great guitar and bass sound. Campers will explore various pedals from the Maxon line and get great information from Kevin. Kevin is the owner of Godlyke Distributing Co. that distributes Maxon pedals among other companies in the US. Goldyke also makes their own line of super useful music accessories. Kevin will also shed light and answer questions about getting and maintaining endorsements and what endorsement companies look for when choosing the artists that they want to work with. This will be a very informative workshop packed with information that is hard to get anywhere else.

THE METAL MOTIVATION MESSAGE From C.J. Ortiz / The Metal Motivator

C.J.’s uncompromising approach to personal achievement and lasting change is an amazing force for not only metalheads, but anyone who wants to stay motivated and achieve their maximum potential. Campers will be able to listen to an exclusive CD made by C.J. for the young campers via the rehearsal room P.A. As a bonus, everyone will receive a complimentary copy of the message on a CD to take home and refer to long after the camp is done. A short discussion between the campers and Metal Mike will follow. C.J.’s message is sure to inspire and motivate all campers long after the camp is done.

Justin Morey (aka Metal J.) has spent considerable time on the road tour managing as well as guitar and drum teching for Halford, Primal Fear, Kobra And The Lotus and many more. Metal J will focus on what it takes to prepare for and run a band smoothly behind the scenes. The workshop will cover how to prepare yourself for a various teching gigs and how things run behind the scenes. Important roles of the tour personel will be discussed including the roles of a Tour Manager, Production Manager, Instrument Technicians, Booking Agents and more. A solid metal drummer in his own right, Metal J will also show drummers some great double bass kick drum exercises and techniques in addition to great tricks on how to set-up your own drum kit for optimum performance.

Time to relax from all the band rehearsals and enjoy an amazing metal movie or a concert DVD while you hear stories and check out actual tour mementos from Mike. Check out actual backstage signage, guitar picks, even stage clothing.

Prepare to make your own metal jewelry from leather and grommets. Campers will use items like guitar picks and drum sticks and incorporate them for truly one of a kind items that you can wear daily or at the final performance on Friday. Many bands start out working on their look early in the career and campers will have a chance to discuss and talk about properly presenting yourself as a professional rocker.

Campers will have a chance to show their new friends some of the metal they have been listening to lately and discover what others are listening to as well. What's new? What's old? Everyone will join in on a discussion about what we like about our favorite metal bands and compare them with others.  Campers will have a chance to openly discuss current trends and the staying power of classic metal acts.
